Self described as an “alien consciousness stuck in a human,” artist Stoic Anunnaki’s work definitely knows how to push the envelope in both meaningful and provocative ways. Nearly all of his works take us out of this world through portrayals of intergalactic species that will fill you with the very same rush of fear and excitement you feel at the top of a roller coaster– a necessary combination. If art is meant to instigate conversation, then Anunnaki has succeeded, because there is much to say.
“space case, drain brain, degenerate who now lives on a living rock floating through space and time.”
Straying away from typical mediums, one piece depicts an alien skull painted on tree wood. This provides an extra layer of depth, as he brings his art into the real world. Both art and nature exist in one, through Anunnaki’s work. Another work showcases the very same skull, adorned with shapes, patterns, and perhaps even spiritual symbolism painted upon a glass jar. Then, once again, on a large wooden barrel. Anunnaki does something spectacular by refusing to follow traditional mediums– he is redefining what it means to create.
There is a sense of relatability to Anunnaki’s work, in which it comments on aspects of society we may all feel distressing or scary. His work finds solace in the dark side of life, and reminds us that sometimes it is okay to take a break from the light.
