Officials broke ground recently on the new million-dollar skate park near downtown St. Petersburg. The $1.25 million project will construct an approximately 28,000-square-foot park, making it the largest in the state of Florida.
City officials say the park will be a draw for major skating competitions and tournaments all while creating something new and exciting for kids living in a low-income area.

Initial designs showed the concrete playground includes a 12-foot drop, in addition to several other features for skateboarders to perfect their craft.
“The park is going to have something for everyone, all levels, from beginner, intermediate, and advanced… from a street course to a flow area,” said Jay Turner, with the St Petersburg Skate Park Alliance.
The final designs for the park were shown to the public earlier this week and the construction is expected to be completed next Spring.
